An Artist Statement in Three Quotes and a Postscript

ONE

“We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. ALL ART IS QUITE USELESS.”

—Oscar Wilde

TWO

“It is said art is a matter of life or death; this may be melodramatic but it is also true.”

—Bruce Nauman

THREE

“Take your practiced powers and stretch them out until they span the chasm between two contradictions… For the god wants to know himself in you.”

—Rainer Marie Rilke, [At once the winged energy of delight]

P.S.

“Whatever it is, I'm against it.”

—Groucho Marx
